Saturday, July 24th: 100th Anniversary Shearstown Trinity United Church Celebrations (Shearstown United Church) A Garden Party will be held as part of the 100th Anniversary celebrations. 1:00pm to 4:oopm at the Lions’ Recreation Centre Area in Shearstown. Games for children and adults, jumping castle, face painting, free BBQ with hot dogs and hamburgers, soft drinks, coffee /tea, local musicians and lots of prizes, everyone is welcome.

Muses & Minstrels – A Festival of Early Performing Arts
In addition to advertising We Will Remain – Patriotic Songs of Newfoundland, the shirt that Fergus is wearing describes the determination of Newfoundlanders to endure.  For four hundred years, through everything that has happened in Newfoundland and Labrador, and through everything that has happened in the world outside – we have remained and we have put down roots.  The music and preforming arts have always been a large part of life.  The Muses  & Minstrels symposium, held in the College of the North Atlantic in Carbonear on July 2nd, explored the traditions of Newfoundland and Labrador.  Presenters discussed how our culture has evolved through music, dance, theatre and other forms of entertainment. From July 2 – 11 events will be held all over the region showcasing many of the performance arts.

Dale Jarvis, Intangible Cultural Heritage Development Officer with Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, spoke about storytelling  and its role from the 17th century to the present.

William Gilbert, Chief Archaeologist with the Baccalieu Trail Heritage Corporation, was the Keynote Speaker and discussed “Cupids 1610.”
