Muses and Minstrels – Schedule

July 2 – July 11 – Cupids & Neighbouring Communities

Muses and Minstrels: Early Performing Arts Festival

The Festival will offer a high quality, educational and entertaining experience of the performing arts of earlier eras to a broad audience. It will provide an immersive experience that links people to the roots of Newfoundland and Labrador’s culture and to the life and times of particular historical periods through music, dance, and theatre.

A NOTE FROM WILLIAM GILBERT: Just a note to let you know that Marylin Tucker, Paul Wilson and three other great musicians from Devon are currently in Newfoundland and are performing a series of concerts in the Baccalieu Trail Region with Jim Payne, Fergus O’Byrne and other members of A Crowd of Bold Sharemen. The concert series is called “Shore to Shore” and celebrates the musical connections between Newfoundland the the English West Country.

Although they all share a common theme, each concert is different.  Concerts include: “Waterhaul!” Sunday (July 4)  in Bay de Verde; “Will You Ship to Me”, Wednesday (July 7th) in Carbonear; “Rolling on the Deep Blue Sea” Thursday (July 8th) in Dildo; and ”Blow the Wind Westerly” Friday (July 9th) in Cupids.

There are also three afternoon sessions where local musicians are invited to bring along instruments and join in. The first one was in Winterton yesterday at 2pm. The second is in Bay de Verde this afternoon (Sunday) at 2pm and the third is in Dildo this coming Thursday July 8th) at 2pm.

This is a once-in-a-life-time chance to see and hear these musicians right here at home. If you’re interested in Newfoundland music and the roots of Newfoundland music you really should take in at least one of these concerts.
